Ithaca Gun Factory To Be Torn Down

Ithaca Gun Factory To Be Torn Down

By WBNG News

A long time Ithaca landmark could be demolished this summer.
The Ithaca Gun Factory on Ithaca's east hill could be torn down in June or July.
The factory and site are run down and contaminated.
The demolition will start even though the City of Ithaca has not gotten a state grant to start the cleanup of lead and other contaminants.
A high end condominium development has been proposed for the site, which would be built with private and public partnership.
The factory shut down in 1986, after more than 100 years of making guns and ammunition.
The money for the Demolition will come from a Restore New York grant, but the city is still working to get cleanup money.
