Arrest Made in Eldredge Street Fire

By WBNG News

Binghamton police arrest an Endicott man in connection with a fire that left 10 people homeless last month.

As Action News reporter Gabe Osterhout tells us, he has a history with some of the people that lived in the building...

After a brief investigation, Binghamton police have their man.

28 year old Michael Shino of Endicott was arrested Thursday at his home.

He's charged with 2nd degree arson.

Police say he used some sort of accelerant to set a fire at 23 Eldredge Street in the early morning hours of April 25th.

The fire quickly spread next door to 21 Eldredge Street, destroying both buildings.

Leaving 10 people homeless.

"This fire was a result of an on-going dispute between Shino and some of the residents at 23 Eldredge Street," says Captain Alex Minor of the Binghamton police department.

He wouldn't say who they were, or if drugs or alcohol were involved.

But Minor did say the dispute lasted over a few weeks.

And he says the fire had nothing to do with a separate incident at the apartment the night before the fire started.

"We do not feel that the home invasion burglary and this arson is connected. That was two separate instances. Coincidently, they happened within a day or so of each other," says Minor.

A 9 year old boy who had to be pulled from the burning building is now back home.

He was hospitalized after the fire with smoke inhalation and some burns on his body.

Minor expects him to make a full recovery.

Minor says the investigation continues, and more arrests are possible.
