Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) From what they do for their communities, to their own personal strength and courage, local women were the center of a ceremony Tuesday.

Tuesday marked 14th annual Women of Distinction Celebration in Broome County.

Those honored Tuesday represented courage, confidence and whose personal and professional achievements help make their respective communities better places.

For one honoree, being helpful in the community is something others could used as motivation toward success.

"I just think it's so important to give back to your community," said recipient Maureen Willson. "I don't think sitting back, and enjoying success is worthwhile at all if you can't put it to use in a constructive way to help others and be constructive in the advancement of not-for-profits."

The program also featured Girl Scout and Gold Award recipient McGinnis Miller's work in the community.
