Spending the 4th on the Greens

Spending the 4th on the Greens

By WBNG News

The second year of the Dick's Sporting Goods Open in Endicott falls on the 4th of July.

The pros hit the greens for the first round of tournament play.

Action News Reporter Jessica Light tells us who golf fans are rooting for this holiday weekend.

It's a Fourth of July full of action on the links.

Fans are lining the ropes here at En-Joie Golf Course.

They say the Dicks Sporting Goods Open is a great way to spend the holiday.

"With the price of gas this is it. We've had our tickets since Christmas. So we don't miss out on it." says Carm Chauncey from the Town of Maine.

"I think it's a great time. A lot of people are out, more people can come to it and I think Dick's is very family oriented." says Louise Murphey-Robinson.

That's why Kate Lynch brought her family to the course today.

Including little Keagen.

"We thought we'd introduce him at an early age. Its a nice sport and we think he'd really like to be into it in the future." says Lynch of Apalachin.

He might not be old enough to putt, but he's already well versed in the game.

"In the middle! Right down the middle."

And he has a clear favorite.

"Tiger Woods? Yeah!"

Well you won't see Tiger on this green anytime soon.

But there are plenty of other pros to choose from.

"Definitely pulling for Joey Sindelar today. He's a local fan favorite I'm sure and theres a big following for him." says Steve Bell of Binghamton.

"Fuzzy Zoeller. And why? I remember for years coming here. I like his personality and I just think he's got charisma." says Murphey-Robinson.

"Fuzzy Zoeller, we watched him for a couple of holes so that was really good to see and uh Jim Thorp we got to see him that was really good we watched him for a couple of holes too." says Carleen Schirmer of Baltimore.

It's not your typical picnic or barbeque, but there's plenty of fun to be found at En-Joie this 4th of July.

There will also be two concerts at this weekends event.

Tonight Colbie Caillat takes the stage at 7pm.

Tomorrow, Hootie and the Blowfish perform at 7.

Tickets are $25 dollars for one concert, or $35 for both.

You can buy your tickets at the entrance of En-Joie Golf Course.

If you already have a ticket to watch the action on the links, that ticket will also get you into the day's concert.
