Wind Blowing Energy Into New York

By WBNG News

Wind power could be strong force in the future of energy production in New York.

On June 26th, staff at the Public Service Commission suggested an alternative that the commission could consider, that would grant Iberdrola permission to build wind farms in New York State under certain conditions.

It is part of Iberdrola's 4.5 billion dollar acquisition of Energy East Corporation.

Energy East is NYSEG's parent company.

Senator Charles Schumer has pushed the Public Service Commission to allow for wind energy.

Schumer says wind power has the ability to reduce energy costs while providing clean and cheap power.

"Which will be good for us here in the Southern Tier, and throughout upstate New York in terms of cheaper rates as well as others. And one other thing. I insisted that they put in the deal a 600 million dollar pot of money that they are going to make from the sale. So, when the rates should go up it will come out of that pot of money," said New York Senator Charles Schumer.

Schumer believes the deal will help create jobs, and could bring billions of investment dollars into Upstate New York.
