ELLIOTT MAUNFACTURING AWARDED $2.8 MILLION BY MTD

Elliott Manufacturing Company today announced an exclusive supply agreement with MTD, a leading global manufacturer of outdoor power equipment, producing equipment for both residential and commercial markets. Elliott is the world’s largest manufacturer of flexible shafts and liners, vital components used in weed trimmers. The deal is valued at $2.8 million and will affect production at the company’s manufacturing facility at 11 Beckwith Avenue, in Binghamton.

Flexible shafts are used to convey the rotation of a motor at one end of a weed trimmer within a straight or curved tube that connects to a cuffing head where the rotating string is located. “Line?’ is an extruded plastic housing that sits within the weed trimmer shaft and serves as a “bearing” for the flexible shaft helping to reduce noise, vibration and other issues related to the long transmission of rotational force within a steel or aluminum tube.

Elliott’s flexible shafts can be found on most brands of weed trimmers throughout the world. The addition of MTD not only adds significant volume to the company’s manufacturing capabilities, that currently exceeds 25 million feet per year, for the trimmer market segment alone, but also adds such prominent brands as: Cub Cadet, Cub Cadet Commercial, Cub Cadet Yanmar,TroyBut, White Outdoor, Yard-Man, Yard Machines, Bolens, Arnold, GardenWay, MW Pro and MTD Gold, all manufactured by MTD in the U.S and Mexico, to Elliott’s portfolio.
The build season for Elliott begins immediately in order to have adequate supplies of bulk flexible shaft on hand and continues to ramp-up in November, December, January and February as trimmer manufacturers call for “cut and squared core”, terminology that refers to a finishing process wherein 3000-foot spooled flexible shafts are cut to specified lengths and shaped at both ends to connect with fittings to accomplish the connection between motor and cuffing head. The binuner sales season begins each year in southern and western states along with the lawn and garden season and trends north with improving weather conditions, reaching a peak by midsummer. Each year over 8.5 lawn trimmers are sold in the U.S. Market, according to industry reports.
