Democratic Convention Part 2

Democratic Convention Part 2

By WBNG News

In one week Democrats across the country will gather in Denver for the National Convention.

Michelle Berry and Barbara Fiala are both pledged delegates.

Action News Reporter Jessica Light asks about their picks for Vice-President and party message.

Ithaca businesswoman Michelle Berry and Broome County Executive Barbara Fiala leave for Denver later this week.

And while the two women support different candidates, they are excited to come together to support the presumptive nominee, Barack Obama.

But Fiala, a pledged Clinton delegate, is hoping the former first lady will share the Democratic ticket.

She says "We will be making history here with Senator Obama and it would be really a double whammy to have that, and I still think very strongly that it is a dream ticket."

Berry signed up to receive a text message the moment Obama chooses his running mate.

But his pledged delegate won't take a stab at VP possibilities.

"I have my picks in my head, but I'd be afraid to say because I don't like to lose bets." says Berry.

Berry's not naming names on the VP front, but she's not afraid to voice her confidence in fellow Democrats.

"My hopes for the party are really endless and I think with good communication and a sense of optimism and not hope for the sake of hope but hope because thats what keeps us together and keeps us unified as a nation." says Berry.

Fiala thinks the party may adopt Obama's message of Change.

It is a theme of the convention.

"He is the party leader, its up to him to set the pace and we have to all come together and support him in that message and I think thats what the American people are looking for right now, a change. We can't afford to have another four years of the failed leadership of the last 8." says Fiala.

A shared opinion by both delegates as they prepare to witness history come Monday.

People who register with Obama's website can learn his VP choice via text message or email before the media is informed.

It's something thats never been done before.

The Democratic National Convention runs from August 25th through the 28th.
