United Against Cancer is a month-long cancer prevention campaign.

United Health Services is holding screening events across the area.

Action News Reporter Jessica Light shows us why its something you should plan to do with the whole family.

UHS is United Against Cancer.

Its holding these screening events to help you protect your family from cancer.

"It provides an opportunity for families to talk about how you can be healthy, how you can stay health, and how you can help yourself continue to be healthy."says Sara Delafield of the UHS Center for Community Health.

There are informational booths, free cancer screenings, even refreshments.

The events are made possible through a partnership with State Senator Thomas Libous.

"If there is a situation you want to get it taken care of immediately. The longer you wait, it could be fatal and thats the key to these screenings."says Libous.

You can register for for several types of cancer screenings free of charge.

Including skin, oral, prostate, and breast cancer.

"Cancer is something we can do a lot to prevent. We wanted to get a prevention message out and we also wanted to provide screenings because we know that early detection is really good for increasing your odds for survival."says Delafield.

UHS wants families to have a good time while seeking good health.

Games and a clown provide entertainment for the kids, and there's even a band to get you moving.

"That's why its unique because we can't remember anything like it. UHS is being very creative here. They wanted to come up with a different idea to help people as it pertains to health care."says Libous.

Over the next few weeks, UHS is holding 3 more cancer screening events in the Southern Tier.

The next screening event is this Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm.

It will be held at the United Health Services Walk-In in Owego.
