The discovery of a man's body has the Chenango County Sheriff's office investigating a suspicious death.

The body of an older white male was pulled from the Chenango River in the Town of Norwich.

The scene was near the Norwich Plaza at the corner of Route 12 and Route 320.

The sheriff says is appears the body had been in the water a few days.

A deputy on patrol noticed the body this morning while driving over a bridge.

"In the mean time we're running down any leads for any missing persons and trying to make some identifications and eliminate any possibility of foul play," said Thomas Loughren, Chenango County Sheriff. "

:At this time it's pretty much what we have. We didn't find any identification or anything like that on the person. So obviously we'll investigate this for foul play until information will tell us differently," he said.

The body was taken to Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.

An autopsy will be performed Saturday.
