Light the Night Walk

By WBNG News

Hundreds spent their evening at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, walking to commemorate those touched by cancer.

Nearly a thousand people took part in the 5th annual Light the Night Walk.

It's sponsored by the Central New York Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma society.

Walkers with red balloons represented those who were walking in honor of a loved one battling a blood cancer.

Those with white balloons were blood cancer survivors.

All money raised will go toward finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, and Hodgkins' disease.

"More and more budgets are being cut for cancer research and we need to make up that deficit so that we can continue to fund the research that will eventually find a cure," says Kristin Hennessey, campaign manager for Light the Night.

Money will also go to improving the quality of life for patients and their families.

The goal was to raise more than 55 thousand dollars at this event and organizers expected to surpass that goal.
