New York State will send rebate checks to some homeowners, starting this week.

Rebate checks for homeowners who qualify for the 2008 middle class STAR rebate program will start being sent tomorrow.

Nearly 3.3 million households may be eligible.

The program is worth more than a billion dollars.

This is in addition to the STAR property exemption on school tax bills.

Homeowners whose property information didn't change from 2007 will get their check automatically.

New property owners or those whose property information has changed will have to apply.

Those applications will be mailed out starting tomorrow.

To find out when your check will be mailed, log onto www.nystax.gov.

Rebate checks will be sent through the end of October.
