Virgil, NY (WBNG Binghamton) After spending $7.5 million to buy Greek Peak Ski Resort, the new owners are now spending another $3 million on improvements.
Elmira area businessmen John Meier and Marc Stemerman shared their big plans Thursday at the lodge.
Skiers and snowboarders can expect big changes the next time they hit the slopes. The new owners said it has been decades since a new ski lift was installed on the mountain.
"There's been no bigger development in the last 25 years for that central New York skier than what we're about to do," Meier said.
There will be a new four-person lift to improve speed up the hill. It will be the first and only in central New York, owners said.
The new quad lift will cut down travel time up the mountain from 13 to seven minutes, and could carry 1,300 more people per hour.
"A lot of time you'll hear, 'Oh they got a great deal, they're just going to flip it and sell it,'" Stemerman said."But what we're doing is we're immediately investing, putting the new lift, the load carpet, and redoing Orions to show a commitment to the skiers."
Other improvements such as ski rentals, snow making, and remodeling the lodge will focus on the ski mountain.
The pair have laid out an ambitious timeline to have this work completed. They said the new ski lift and other upgrades will be ready for the December ski season.
