Discussing the Johnson City Fire Department

Discussing the Johnson City Fire Department

By WBNG News

Johnson City leaders and the interim fire chief met behind closed doors tonight.

Mayor Harry Lewis says the discussion involved a personnel issue within the fire department.

When asked to comment, Lewis could say only this:

"We had a discussion with the acting fire chief and discussed about the running of the fire department and positions and so on it was kind of to bring the board up to date of the workings of the fire department," said Lewis.

Fire personnel has been an ongoing discussion in recent months.

In June, Former Chief Henry Michalovic cut ties with the Village, after he was suspended without pay for 30 days.

His suspension was part of an investigation into the misappropriation of public funds.

A replacement has yet to be named.

In August the Village looked into whether it was legally required to have a fire chief, which it is not.

And, the board recently decided it likely will not fill the assistant fire chief position to save money.
