Man Charged in Hathorn Court Homicide

The Chief of Police, Elmira Police Department and the Chemung County District Attorney’s Office wish to announce the arrest of Romondo L. Ross, d.o.b. 05/08/1984 in connection with the shooting death of Maurice Davis on August 1, 2008.

On August 1, 2008, this department responded to the area of Woodlawn Avenue at the Hathorn Court housing complex for a shots-fired complaint. Shortly after arriving there, officers learned that Maurice Davis of 347 Woodlawn Avenue had been struck and killed by a bullet that entered the bedroom of his apartment from outside. Davis shared that apartment with his wife Tanisha Logan-Davis and several children.

Following a two month investigation, Romondo L. Ross was arrested and charged with Murder in the Second Degree. Ross was arraigned in the Elmira City Court. No bail was set. Murder in the Second Degree is a class A felony punishable by a maximum term of 25 years to life. Additional arrests stemming from the incident are expected.

The Chief of Police wishes to extend his appreciation to the dedicated members of the department’s detective bureau, as well as members of the New York State Police and the District Attorney’s Office for their exhaustive efforts in this investigation.
