By WBNG News

More help is on the way for people facing energy emergencies.
The Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross and New York State Electric and Gas are teaming up to sponsor a new energy assistance program.
It's called the "Matching Incentive Payment Program".
NYSEG presented the Red Cross with this 500-thousand dollar check today.
The matching program provides 600-dollars to NYSEG customers who can't keep up with payments.
It will also match any additional payments customers make toward past-due amounts, up to 400-dollars.
"With all of the other economic pressures that we're seeing on families right now, I certainly think that there are people who this is going to make a huge difference to them."said Cindy Gordineer

NYSEG customers whose household income is less than 8-percent above the Home Energy Assistance Program or HEAP are eligible.
To apply for a matching program grant, contact your local Red Cross chapter.
