A Binghamton couple donated 50 million dollars from their estate to an upstate college.

The gift is going to LeMoyne College in Syracuse.

Robert and Catherine McDevitt both passed away this year.

Robert owned McDevitt Brothers Funeral home here on Front Street in Binghamton.

His cousin helped establish the physics department when LeMoyne was founded in 1946.

50 million is the single largest donation in Jesuit schools history.

"The impact is powerful, and it will allow us to become one of the best colleges of our type in the country." said LeMoyne College President Dr. Fred Pestello.

It will establish an endowment to support education in physics, computer science, and religious philosophy.

The money comes from IBM stock the McDevitt's acquired through inheritance and purchases.
