Drunk Driving Takes Life

By WBNG News

Drunk driving is believed to be the cause of a fatal accident in Delaware County.

The Delaware County Sheriff's office says the accident happened shortly before 3 am Saturday, on State Route 10, in the Town of Walton.

The location is commonly referred to as 'Ice House Turn.'

A driver, and two passengers were traveling north.

Their vehicle lost control, struck a guide rail, then spun around and struck several trees, before coming to rest against a tree, on the other side of the guide rail.

The front seat passenger, 28 year-old Frank Ruiz, of Walton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Back seat passenger, 21 year-old Eduardo Torres, of Walton, was transported to Delaware Valley Hospital, and treated and released.

Driver, 22 year-old Katherine Covell, of Walton, was taken to Delaware Valley Hospital before being transferred to Wilson Hospital for further treatment.

Deputies believe Covell had been drinking, which appears to be the cause.

She was also speeding.

The investigation is continuing.

Charges are pending against the driver, Katherin Covell.
