Black Friday is one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

Despite a recession, this year was no different.

Retailers were apprehensive about sales on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

But fears faded as people lined up early in the morning and shopped through the day.

Sores at the Oakdale Mall reported more business than expected.

Some topped last year's Black Friday.

"The increases were good on Friday. A little flat on Saturday then Mother Nature took over on Sunday a little bit. The wet, wet weather didn't help, but I did find some stores with very good sales," says Nancy Phillips of the Oakdale Mall.

Phillips credits big sales and people looking to save money.

She expects the momentum to continue throughout the holiday shopping season.
