Task Force Tackles Sewage Treatment Plant

By WBNG News

Three people are appointed to a new committee that aims to improve management of the Binghamton Johnson City Joint Sewage treatment Plant.

Tonight, Johnson City appointed Village Trustees Dennis Hannon and Richard Balles, as well as Town of Union Councilman Thomas Augostini to that committee.

They'll join Binghamton Councilmen Ed Collins and Martin Gerchman.

Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan must still appoint a 6th member to the committee.

The Sewage Plant's inter-municipal agreement between the village and the city dates back to the 1960's.

Hannon says a lot has changed since then, and it's time to revisit it.

"The operation of the Joint Sewage Treatment Plant has become very expensive and the budget did become an issue this year. So really, what we're trying to do is, the owners need to have more control of the budget and it's expenditures. And that's in the best interest of all the people," said Hannon.

The task force will hold it's first meeting next Tuesday.
