Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Receives New Roof

During this holiday season the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena in downtown Binghamton, is receiving a new roof. The estimated $560,000 construction project began in the fall and is continuing through December with completion expected in the spring. Local roofing contractor, Weathermaster Roofing Company, Inc. was awarded the contract to replace the 84,000 sq. ft. roof.

When evaluating materials to use in the construction, the county decided to make an energy conscious decision to change the color of the roof from black to white. Using the Energy Star Roofing Calculator at www.roofcalc.com, the county estimated a savings of $7,728.82 in cooling and heating costs with the installation of a reflective roof. Within seven years the savings would also cover the $27,415 difference in cost from choosing white rather than black roofing material.
