A national day to remember fallen veterans hits home in Tioga County.

Local veterans placed wreaths on the Tioga County Veterans Memorials in Owego.

It was part of Wreaths Across America day.

Nationwide, this day gives people the opportunity to decorate grave sites of Veterans from all wars.

Organizer Jim Raftis says it's a way of showing how veterans are thinking of other soldiers during the holiday season.

"It's very important to remember those who have fallen who have who have made the supreme sacrifice and to honor those who have served or are serving and to teach our children the meaning of freedom," said Jim Raftis, Veterans of Foreign War Memorial Day Chair.

The public is invited to stop by and see the handmade wreaths.

Families are also encouraged to place a wreath at the grave of their veteran.
