Blood Drive Success

A three day drive in Johnson City helps boost the area's blood supply.

WBNG teamed up with the American Red Cross for a New Year's Resolution Blood Drive at the Oakdale Mall.

It collected 125 pints of blood today, bringing the 3 day total to 355 pints of blood collected.

That's about 75 pints more than their goal of 280 pints of blood.

230 pints were collected during the first two days of the event.

"It's gone sensational. We normally have about a 70 percent show rate on appointments. We've had close to a 90-95 percent show rate on appointments here, which is sensational. We've had people come out of the woodwork to donate, first time time donors, people that haven't donated in years that have come back to donating again," says Theresa Blank of the American Red Cross.

If you missed out on the blood drive this weekend, you'll still have more opportunities to donate.

Just call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE to find out about upcoming blood drives.

January is national blood donor month and anyone giving blood during this month will receive a free pound of coffee from Dunkin Donuts.
