Could your March Madness brackets include Binghamton University Bearcats?
Action News reporter Gabe Osterhout tells us why BUs first shot at the big dance is a big deal across the Greater Binghamton community.
Sunday's come from behind thriller pushed Binghamton University one step closer to it's first NCAA tournament.
The Events Center will host the America East Conference tournament final this Saturday.
The winner gets an automatic bid to the big dance.
"People are pretty excited. I mean this is the first time this has ever happened so...it'd be cool to see our team in the NCAAs," B.U. Sophomore Adam Mazzoni.
Tickets for the championship game went on sale for season ticket holders this morning.
Athletes say a sell out will give the Bearcats a true home court advantage.
"Crowds really help them play a lot better so it's just amazing how big of an impact the crowd is," says B.U. Junior Erica Carter.
If you can't get a ticket to the stands, you can watch on TV.
ESPN2 will broadcast the the game live.
Harpur College alumnus Tony Kornheiser of ESPN says he never dreamed B.U. would be in this position.
"They're going to be at home. The place is going to be rocking. I've got to think that Binghamton...I'm not going to call them a mortal lock but I gotta think we got a great shot to be in the NCAAs and that's just very cool, especially for me," Kornheiser says.
The possibilities bring the BU campus and Greater Binghamton community even closer together.
"This is one of the ways we can get Binghamton University on a national map so I do think it will raise the consciousness of the university. Not just for sports, but also its academics," says B.U. alumna Amy Wieber.
"We've never had anything like this in this area so this is a big thing for our Binghamton area, not only the school," says B.U. alumnus Bob Bills.
As for how the conference final will play out, Kornheiser says, "I've got those rough fighting Bearcats winning by 9."
