Section Of Route 17 Becomes I-86

By Mike Trim

The New York State Department of Transportation unveiled the new Interstate 86 signs.

A 9.9 mile stretch from Kirkwood to Windsor is now Interstate 86.

The project will eventually turn all of route 17 into an Interstate.

From the Pennsylvania border to the west, to the state thruway in Orange County to the East.

"We are very excited to move forward in delivering this transportation improvement to the travelers of the state of New York," says Jack Williams of the DOT.

Williams says the next part of route 17 to be changed to I-86 in Broome County will be from the Windsor exit, east to the Delaware County border.
