Hinchey Fights To Keep Mail Processing Center In Binghamton

By WBNG News

Congressman Maurice Hinchey is working to keep local mail flowing in Binghamton.

Last month, the United States Postal Service announced a plan that would shut down the mail processing center at Binghamton...

And divert it to Syracuse.

Postal officials say the consolidation would lead to fewer trays of letters and trucks, and save the post office over a million dollars a year...

But in a letter to the USPS, Hinchey urges them to take more consideration on potential negative impacts.

And, take a look at the bigger picture for the customers, postal workers and community.

Hinchey says he will not support a consolidation plan that diminishes the level of service.
