JC Man Admitted Murder to Family

By WBNG News

Police say a Johnson City man admitted to family members that he killed Kelly Wescott last weekend.

William Kenyon is now behind bars for the murder of his girlfriend.

Action News Reporter Julianne Sweeney tells us what police say led to her violent end.

48 year old William Kenyon is charged with murder in the death of Kelly Wescott.

Johnson City Police say his family alerted officers.

"Indicating he has made admissions to killing his girlfriend Kelly Wescott." said Lt. David Smith.

46 year old Wescott was found dead in her apartment on Floral Avenue around 7:30 Saturday morning.

A few hours before, she called 911 to report a fight with Kenyon.

When police responded, Kenyon was not at her home and Wescott refused to press charges.

"Mr. Kenyon was not there. Let me emphasize, we had no police contact with him." said Chief Douglas Potts.

But, Kenyon did return to Wescott's apartment.

Police say he knocked down the door to get inside.

An autopsy shows Wescott died of asphyxiation.

Smith says her breathing was cut off through compressing the upper body.

Still, police will not say if Kenyon has formally confessed to the killing.

Only that Kenyon had suffered superficial self-inflicted wounds.

"It's apparent at some point after the homicide, he had thought about harming himself." said Smith.

Police say alcohol was involved and they are awaiting Wescott's toxicology results.

Officers say Kenyon did not resist arrest and is in the Broome County Jail.

Johnson City Police say officers responded to about a dozen domestic calls between Kenyon and Wescott.

During this time an officer had been assigned to work with her.

Kenyon has been charged with 2nd degree murder.
