Community Shows Continued Support For ACA

By WBNG News

Three months since the American Civic Association shootings, aid to help the center for immigrants is still flowing.

As Action News Reporter Caitlin Nuclo tells us, the ACA is thanking the community for funding it's mission and remembrance.

The American Lebanese Club knows first hand, the benefits of the American Civic Association in our community.

"This association provides so many avenues of help for all the immigrants that come to this country, so this is a small token to pay back what they do for us," said Adiv Rouhana of the American Lebanese Club.

And the club is paying it forward.

It raised $5,200 for the ACA.

"We could not do the work or continue without these organizations and their contributions," said Executive Director of the ACA, Andrew Baranoski.

"The contributions have been coming in from day one," he said.

Money donated specifically to the ACA is being steered into three separate accounts.

A general fund, a victims fund and a memorial fund, based on the donors wishes.

The American Civic Association has had to cancel it's two major fundraisers this year, The All Nations Ball and the Garlic Festival.

Baranoski says the ACA is reliant on community donations to keep running.

"Anybody that is involved in the not for profits certainly understands what a tremendous loss that can be when you don't have your life plug, your money coming in," said Bob Moppert with the Hillcrest Rotary Club.

The Hillcrest Rotary Club chipped in a $1,000.

And Vestal High School students added 400 bucks, and this banner to brighten up the center.

"It helps in their own healing process to do something positive to help other people," said Linda Quilty with Vestal High School.

It's community support like this, that's providing a positive step forward for the ACA.

Baranoski says the ACA has received more than $20,000.

That's excluding money collected by other organizations, like Catholic Charities.
