Greene Schools Go Green

By WBNG News

The district kicked off its latest improvement project today at Greene High School.

In December 2007, voters approved a 36.1 million dollar renovation plan.

It includes enhancing the schools in many ways, like harnessing Geo-thermal heating for greater energy efficiency.

New water, heating and ventilation systems, as well as a new turf field will be installed.

Although the project officially began a few weeks ago...

Construction is moving faster, now that students are on summer break.

"I feel terrific about the capital project. It's been a long time coming and we probably haven't spent this much money on the school district since the buildings were first built," says Greene Superintendent Gary Smith.

The district is funding the work through state aid and reserve funds.

The field should be ready by this Fall.

The entire project should be completed within 2 to 3 years.
