Berkshire Fire Braces For Possible Resignations

By WBNG News

Last night in Berkshire, voters rejected a referendum calling for a new fire station.

Berkshire's assistant fire chief tells Action News there have been grumblings about volunteers leaving.

No one has officially resigned yet, but that could change at their next monthly meeting.

"I've talked to some of them. You didn't even need to look at them, you could just see it in their eyes," said A.J. Hanson, an assistant fire chief with Berkshire. "They were disappointed. It was just disappointment. But we gotta keep doing what we're doing."

The new station would have cost more than 1.5 million dollars.

And would have raised taxes up to 1.70 dollars per thousand of accessed value.
