Making Consolidation Easy

By WBNG News

High taxes are driving people out of New York.

Partly because of the state's 10,500 local governments.

Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has made it easier to consolidate local governments.

The new law establishes a uniform method of consolidating throughout the state.

It also cuts the number of signatures required to initiate the dissolution process.

Cuomo says too many government services overlap, and cutting redundant ones can help keep taxes down.

"Today its a crisis. because when you put the slow economy on top of the high taxes, it's TNT. It's dynamite," says Democratic New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.

This law doesn't apply to school districts, because they are separate from local governments.

But Cuomo would like to make it mandatory for districts consolidate their services.
