Binghamton University Named a 'Best Buy'

By WBNG News

For the third consecutive year, Binghamton University has been rated a ‘Best Buy’ by the Fiske Guide to Colleges, and recognized yet again as the ‘premier public in the Northeast.’

Binghamton is one of 44 institutions, 20 public and 24 private, to be recognized by the college guide. The “Best Buy” rating is based on the quality of academic offerings in relation to the cost of attendance.

“Binghamton University is committed to providing an excellent and affordable educational experience,” said President Lois B. DeFleur.
“Our goals are to recruit the best students and provide them with high quality academic programs as well as international and interdisciplinary opportunities so that they will be successful as graduates.
It is obvious that we are achieving these goals and it is gratifying to receive recognition for our accomplishments.”

To determine the list, Fiske researchers combined the cost data with academic and other lifestyle information about each college and university to determine what institutions offer remarkable educational opportunities at a relatively modest cost.

The guide gives high marks to Binghamton’s academics, including its efforts to expand global awareness. Binghamton professors earned praise for their accessibility and classroom presentation. Students also are very positive about Binghamton’s lively social life, its strong athletic program and residential communities.

The Fiske rating is the latest in a series of accolades underscoring Binghamton University’s national reputation. Kiplinger’s Personal Finance ranked it first in the nation as a best value for out-of-state students and 7th overall. Binghamton was also ranked in the U.S. News & World Report’s as one of the most selective public universities in the nation.

In Forbes magazine, Binghamton is listed 11th among the nation’s top public colleges, and 4th in the nation and first in the Northeast among public universities for top-starting salaries. I

t also appears regularly in The Princeton Review’s Best 368 Colleges listings, which last year named Binghamton in its first-ever "Green Rating" of colleges.
