A Horseheads native will be flying high this weekend at the Greater Binghamton Airshow.

Major David Graham is an elite pilot who gets to maneuver one of the most powerful fighter jets, the F-16.

In a matter of seconds, Major David Graham flies from 200 to 15 thousand feet.

And increases velocity from 125 miles per hour up to 700 miles per hour -- just under the speed of sound at the Greater Binghamton Airport.

"I'm doing a bunch of roles and loops and some maneuvers that I might even use in combat. It's a tactical demonstration of the airplane," said Major David Graham of the United States Air Force.

The Horseheads High graduate is testing his plane before a weekend of high-flying entertainment.

He's commander of the F-16 Viper West Coast Demo Team.

Graham is one of only 6 pilots in the country who hold similar positions.

"I have been lucky enough to have the support to get to this point and to realize my dream," said Graham.

During the demonstration, Graham's body withstands a force 9 times the strength of gravity.

"For a guy like me, while I'm doing those tight turns I feel like I weigh up to 14 hundred pounds. So I strain against that to keep the blood in my brain," said Graham.

Graham has flown missions in the middle east.

But says performing a flawless show in front of family and friends compares to completing any mission.

"The people that helped me get to this point are standing over here on my left hand side, helped me out when I was 13, or 14 years old. So, that's what's really special about coming back and doing an air show in your hometown, is all the people that helped you on the way," said Graham.
