But for almost everyone, Independence Day has special meaning.

Crowds of families celebrated with music and food at Highland Park's 4th of July Extravaganza in the Town of Union.

They say the day is great to spend with family and friends.

"This is my first year enjoying them at highland park and i've heard all my family and friends telling me about them so i'm very excited," said Jillian Taylor of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

"Everybody gets together, barbequing, food, people, just a good time, you've got live music here. You know, the celebration of our independence and of course ya know, we have to support our troops," said Chris Paris of Endicott.

"Just being around my family, hanging out watching the jets this year is pretty cool," said Joe Howe of Endicott.

The extravaganza continues through this evening.
