New courthouse patio unveiled

By WBNG News

There's a new outdoor spot to sit, relax and eat lunch in downtown Binghamton.
A public patio sits behind the Broome County Courthouse.
Construction workers were enjoying the new addition for lunch today.
There's wheelchair accessible tables, park benches, and flower planters.
"It's really important that we develop places where the public can gather spontaneously. Get some fresh air in the great outdoors. We just don't have enough of that anymore. I think at one time there were more opportunities for people to gather in places." said Donna Lupardo State assemblywoman

The space is also available for groups to rent for events.
Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo secured a 20 thousand dollar state grant for the project.
The Broome County Planning Department designed the space.
