Church Fire In Sidney Center

This morning in Delaware County, a fire destroyed an historic church in Sidney Center.

State Police and Fire investigators were on the scene this afternoon.

This is all that remains of the Sidney Center United Methodist Church .

Investigators say more than 50 volunteer firefighters responded when the flames broke out around 4:00 am.

It took about 3 hours to put out the fire out.

The church was built in 1896

Raymond Patrick was a member for years.

"This is where I grew up. Got baptized in this church, grew up in the church and youth fellowship... For sometime I was head of youth fellowship," said Patrick.

Patrick is also a fire fighter who responded to the scene on Walton-Sidney Road.

We'll hear more of his story on Action News at 11:00.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
