The Unemployment rate is up in the Binghamton Metropolitan Region.

This after two months of slight improvement.

The Binghamton MSA includes Broome and Tioga Counties.

The New York Labor Department reports the unemployment rate in September rose 2 points to 8.4%

The total number of private sector jobs is 87,500, down 3 thousand since this time last year.

The number of jobs fell in all categories except transportation and warehousing.

Local and state government sector jobs are up but that's mostly due to education.

That reflects the start of the school year.
