Congratulations to the Johnson City High School Marching Band.

Today they competed at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse for the New York State Field Band Conference Championship, and won first place.

Action News was there for their warm welcome home.

"We really put our hearts into it," said Junior Drum Major Kaylyn Malenda.

And putting their heart and soul into their performance, won the JC High School marching band the championship.

They are the best school in their division.

A title that is music to their ears.

"It's amazing we were trying so hard throughout the year we just really wanted to win it," said Malenda.

"Everyone was getting all excited and we finally got to go out on the field and everybody their adrenaline was pumping and everybody was so excited and they did their best I can tell," said Senior Drum Major Marie Osick.

But it was a long road to the state finals.

It took hours of hard work and dedication.

And the 67 students saw that practice pay off.

"I'm very excited for them they've been working really really hard since really this summer and June and especially the last week they came on very very strong and we are very very proud," said Marching Band Director Mark Buza.

Sporting two trophies, proud parents and friends greeted the band.

"When we were standing there and we found out we took first place, it was one of the best feelings that you could ever experience," said Malenda.
