Stimulus Money Spent in Broome County

New York has received billions of dollars in federal stimulus aid, and billions more to come.

Money that has filtered down counties like Broome in the Southern Tier.

$105 million dollars will have made its way into Broome County by the end of 2010.

$26 million dollars went to schools, to help keep school taxes down, boost special education, and help with tuition costs.

The largest portion of Broome County's share was more than $28 million for unemployment benefits and almost $18 million for medicaid payouts.

$13 million more went for things like flood control projects, school food programs, and grocery assistance for low income families.

Broome County also will also see a big portion go to highways and roads, public housing, and health programs.
