Cortland County Hits Jackpot With Jets Camp

Cortland County scored 4.2 million dollars with the New York Jets Summer Training Camp.

The Jets prepared for the 2009 NFL season at SUNY Cortland.

Economics professors studied the impact on the local economy.

They conducted surveys of visitors and business owners.

It found the training camp attracted visitors from Canada and 30 states.

Although the majority, 90%, live in New York and nearly half drove to camp from surrounding counties.

The average visitor spent about 27 dollars a day on food.

Money SUNY Cortland invested to bring the Jets Training Camp also had a ripple effect in the local economy.

The schools President, Erik Bitterbaum, says it funded the study to show the positive impact.
