Obama Extends Homebuyer Assistance

By WBNG News

First-time homebuyers benefit from President Obama's most recent attempt to stimulate the economy.

Obama signed a bill today to extend home-buyer tax credit until June of 2010.

The $8,000 credit will go to first-time homebuyers.

The bill also adds a $6,500 credit for current homeowners who buy a new place after five years in their current home.

Residential homes make up 90% of what the Greater Binghamton Association of Realtors deals with.

The board of realtors says the economic stimulus makes the area more attractive to buyers.

"I believe our area has a lot of impact because of the pent up demand. People are waiting to see what happens and will be out there looking for the best place to live for them and their families," says President Elect of the Board of Realtors, John Farrell.

The bill was originally set to expire at the end of this month.

It also extends unemployment benefits for another 14 weeks.
