Learning Early To Volunteer

Students are starting early when it comes to learning about the importance of volunteering in their community.

Area 8th graders were invited to the Power of One Volunteer Fair at BOCES Thursday night.

The event gave students a chance to sign up for some local volunteer work with 15 different agencies.

This is the first year for the event.

Organizers say volunteering is more than just a resume builder.

"Its about volunteering and about your resume building, but it's also about volunteering and your personal life-building. Maximizing your own personal potential through these opportunities," says Kathy Sheehan, an event organizer.

Agencies on hand included the American Red Cross, Broome County YMCA, and Council of Churches.
