Owego native Douglas Hurley piloted the Shuttle Endeavour on an 11 day mission to the international space station this summer.

Friday morning, he spoke with students, teachers, family and friends at his former school. Owego Free Academy.

He shared stories of his journey, and what it's like to be in a place without gravity.

More importantly, he encouraged students to study hard.

"Math and science are huge, and keep studying. Don't take no for an answer and never quit. If you have a goal, just try hard to reach it. Just because you're from a smaller town, that doesn't limit you," said Hurley.

Hurley carried on OFA shirt with him on his mission.

He brought it back to school this morning.
