Hunters could save some money on their taxes, by donating meat to charity.

Senator Charles Schumer wants to give an incentive to any hunter who gives meat from their kill, to local food pantries.

He says it typically costs between 65 and 80 dollars to process deer into steaks, cubes and hamburger.

The cost of processing the meat would then be written off as a tax deduction.

"It's a win, win, win for our economy. Of course it's a win for the hunter, it's a win for the needy homeless people who are hungry but its also a win for our economy. Hunting is one of the largest industries in the Southern Tier," said Schumer.

Schumer says the Southern Tier is the biggest region for hunting in New York State.

Currently, people who donate turkeys to food banks can use receipts to claim the bird as a charitable gift on their federal tax returns.
