A house fire leaves two families without a home.
Binghamton Fire crews responded to 53 Murray Street just after 8 Sunday night.
Officials say the fire started on the first floor of the 2 family residence.
The flames quickly extended to the porch and second floor, and up the walls of the building.
Firefighters knocked down the flames within a few minutes.
"Not a total loss there is heavy fire damage on the first floor extending to the second floor, smoke damage throughout and water damage on the first floor, it's salvageable but there is heavy damage to this home," said Deputy Fire Chief Brian O'Loughlin.
O'Loughlin says there was a good smoke detector system in the home.
Two adults and 4 children made it out safely, and no one was injured.
Relatives and the Red Cross are assisting the families.
The cause is under investigation.
