9-year-old steals car, crashes into house

Waverly, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A 9-year-old was seriously injured after he stole his father's vehicle and crashed it into a house.

Waverly Police were called to Cayuta Avenue just after 11 p.m. July 1 for reports of a drunk driver.

Upon arrival, police found a pick-up truck that had crashed into a house.

Police said the boy was driving fast down the road and lost control of the truck. He hit a tree first, then the house.

The boy stole the keys to his dad's truck while his parents were sleeping, according to police.

After the crash, the child was trapped inside the truck.

Emergency crews got him out and took him to Robert Packer Hospital.

Police said he had serious injuries to both of his legs.

There was extensive damage to the house and the truck was totaled, according to police.

Police have not said if any charges have been filed because of the crash.
