Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Food Bank of the Southern Tier gets a special delivery from the State Department of Transportation.

The yellow DOT truck was full of canned goods and other food products to help the less fortunate in our community.

It put on its parking lights to stop at 100 Main Street in Binghamton; the site of Broome County Catholic Charities food pantry.

Organizers say they've received more than 3 thousand applications for assistance during the month of January.

"People are very appreciative of the help that they are able to receive," said Missy Goetschius, PR Manager for the Food Bank Of The Southern Tier. "Oftentimes people are very proud and embarrassed to come ask for help, but once they realize how simple it is, and what is available to them, they're very appreciative of the support that the community has for them"
