Afton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The River Club of Afton held a free Christmas buffet this afternoon.

They offered turkey with all the sides.

The event was open to the public and even Santa made a special appearance.

On top of the buffet at the restaurant, they also made nearly 120 deliveries throughout the community.

"We've had a lot of deliveries, meals that we deliver, which we were really happy about, that we could reach those people, as well. So it's been great," said Meghan Murray of the River Club of Afton.

After seeing a need in the community, owners of the River Club took it upon themselves to give back to those in need.

They reached out to other area businesses and said they were shocked by the response.

"We've had a really big response with that and people have been really helpful. A lot of preparation. We did like 15 turkeys, so we were here really, really early putting those in the oven and stuff like that. A lot of food preparation, but it's been fun," said Murray.

Organizers say the outpouring of people looking to donate or volunteer was overwhelming and that the event would not have been possible without them.

After this year's success, they hope to turn this into an annual event.
