A young boy living with a life-threatening disease gets the surprise of a lifetime.

Action News Reporter Lindsay Nielsen tells us the story of a 9-year-old who was given the gift of comfort today.

Nine year old Thomas Briggs has been battling Cystic Fibrosis since the day he was born.

"I have to do therapy and I have a vest and a vest bag I have to do thirty minutes twice a day," says Thomas.

When Thomas's parents found out about a Room to Heal, they put in their application right away.

The organization creates a healing environment in homes of children affected by serious medical conditions.

When Thomas picked out his Yankees theme, the volunteers got to work.

Having a new room was especially important for Thomas because sleep is crucial for him to stay healthy.

"He continues to fight the disease everyday so it's so important that he just gets enough sleep and is about to be in an environment where he can sleep," says his mother Tracey Briggs.

Thomas room was revealed to him and his family for the first time today.

The room renewal was sponsored by Adam and Kim Weitsman.

Along with all the things Thomas has received today in his room reveal he also got his own special package of gifts from the Yankees themselves.

A package that even included tickets to a yankees game in April.

His favorite player even autographed a photo for him.

"We just feel very humbled by it and are very grateful for room to heal and their desire to see kids in an environment where they can grow and be and all those who contribute to a room to heal," said his father Tom Briggs.

Not only a new room, but a new place to relax, play, and just be a normal 9-year old boy.
