Town of Maine, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton Airport was crowded Friday evening as family and friends gathered to welcome home their hero.

Anthony Quaranta, 21, is a soldier in the U.S. Army, working on the front lines in Afghanistan.

Four months ago he was deployed where he was introduced to a new set of skills--fighting for our country and putting his life on the line.

Friday he returned home in Apalachin for a holiday visit that his family describes as nothing less than a blessing.

"We're thanking God that he's home safe and sound, and saying prayers for those people who didn't have that. We're going to enjoy every moment with him until he has to go back," said Mrs. Quaranta.

The family says the holiday homecoming has brought a new-found sense of peace to their house in Apalachin.

Anthony will fly back on the Dec. 26, but until then he plans to make the most of his time, spending it with family and friends.
