Binghamton, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) The Recreation Park Carousel will be up and running in December for the first time ever.

Holiday decorations and a special guest appearance from Santa will turn this highlight of Binghamton into a winter wonderland.

The city has been trying to make this work for the past few years, but the age of the carousel was cause for concern until this year.

"This summer, we've had a great push on the carousel and the mechanics of the carousel and we feel confident that it's going to pull through just like a good, strong horse," Carol Quinlivan, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Binghamton, said.

The attraction will be open from 3 to 6 p.m. on December 7, 14 and 21. Johnson City's carousel in CFJ Park will also be open those days from 5 to 8 p.m.
